Covid Catch up funding

In July 2020, the government announced that £650 million of universal catch-up premium funding will be available for all state-funded mainstream and special schools, and alternative provision. Schools’ allocations will be calculated on a per pupil basis, providing each mainstream school with a total of £80 for each pupil in years reception through to year 6.

St Joseph's have a strategic plan in place to support all children with lost learning time due to coronavirus. Our approach will be tiered and based on educational research to ensure that we achieve maximum impact. An overview of our approach is provided on the link below.

A strong focus on Early Reading and developing and refining our approach to the teaching of phonics is a key priority. Solid foundations in decoding and reading underpin future outcomes, so we have invested significantly in sourcing an excellent and research developed approach to the teaching of phonics in order to ensure rapid progress for all learners, but particularly those younger children who may have missed that essential input during the period of lockdown. We also plan to target specific groups and individual children who are currently not on track to achieve their potential through extra teaching sessions. We plan to start with a focus on Year 6 pupils, in order to ensure that they are ‘secondary ready’.

We will frequently evaluate the effectiveness of our approaches.
